Basically, Kojima wanted to reinforce that the open world exploration and freedom of Ground Zeroes has been expanded several times over for The Phantom Pain. Players can recon the land and mark targets, they can maneuver around and distract guards using a number of tools (cardboard box, horse poop, etc.), and passing time is a cinch thanks to the phantom cigar. Generally, though, the single player portion of the demo hit most of the same bullet points from E3. The presentation also highlights how the game adapts to player choice, either through changing enemy gear or tweaking guard allocations. The demo (featured in the video above) also included the same single player portion seen in the E3 demo, only approached from a completely different perspective and with a few unique quirks. We knew that each individual Mother Base was not alone, the developers highlighted a friend's Base off in the distance, but how exactly those installations might connect was, at the time, unclear.Īt Gamescom, however, Kojima Productions finally revealed the multiplayer for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, showing how players can invade each other's Mother Base installations and steal their precious resources. But, with only so much time to work with, Konami couldn't show off all that Mother Base has to offer, specifically the multiplayer.
One area that was initially teased in the MGS5: Phantom Pain demo was Mother Base, a central hub where players collect resources, customize their military, and plan future missions. For a 30-minute demo, the Metal Gear Solid 5 presentation was comprehensive, but even so it still felt like we were barely scratching the surface. Some of these costumes include the "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater" costume worn by The Boss and EVA, the Snake Tuxedo first introduced in "Metal Gear Solid," and the Snake Jungle Fatigues seen in "Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.Back at E3 2014, we saw a lengthy demo for Metal Gear Solid 5 that included closer looks at the game's open world stealth options, the return of the Fulton recovery system, and plenty of cardboard box shenanigans.
If a player is not able to download the required files, they can access the "Freeplay Mode" while waiting.ĭLC content has also become available, most of which comprise new costumes. Luckily, the download files take only several minutes to complete, according to VG24/7, and servers are starting to go live.
In order to access "Metal Gear Online," a player must download the latest patch for "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain." Once the patch has been downloaded, players can then download the "Metal Gear Online" addition on the online store. The gold WU S pistol and AM MRS-4 machine gun, which are included in the Collector's Edition DLC, are also included in "Metal Gear Online." There is also the new "Forward Operating Base" or FOB, which allows players to utilize microtransactions in order to improve their bases while attempting to tackle new missions and gain new gear. Three different game modes are also available: Bounty Hunter, Comm Control and Cloak and Dagger. "Metal Gear Online" has been completely redesigned from the ground up compared to its previous iteration seen in "Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots." Players are now given three separate characters - an Infiltrator, a Scout and an Enforcer, all of which play differently and utilize different types of gear and weapons.
According to the report, Konami has also confirmed that the PC version of the game "remains on course" for its targeted January 2016 release date. "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's" online multiplayer mode, "Metal Gear Online," has officially launched and can be accessed in "The Phantom Pain" main menu, reports Gamespot.
